The Big East is arguably the best conference in all of college basketball, but several teams still need big wins if they are to make the 2015 NCAA tournament. One of these teams is the Providence Friars, who currently sit at 16-6 overall and just half a game behind first place in the conference. Bad losses to the Marquette Golden Eagles, the Brown Bears and the struggling St. John’s Red Storm have meant that their lone marquee, resume boosting win on the season was to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on a neutral court.

Next up is another opportunity for the Friars to prove themselves, as they travel away from home to Verizon Center to face the Georgetown Hoyas on Wednesday, Feb. 4, at 9 p.m. ET on CBS Sports Network.

The Hoyas just need to finish this season with at least 20 wins if they are to make the 2015 NCAA tournament, but with four away games that include the Butler Bulldogs, Villanova Wildcats and Seton Hall Pirates remaining on their schedule, every win will be crucial. A home loss to Providence would be potentially devastating, because both teams are fighting for a place in the tournament.

Fortunately for Georgetown, both teams boast similar stats, but the Hoyas boast the better player in D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera. Expect this to be a close game like all Big East games have been this season, but expect Georgetown to come out on top behind a 20 or so point performance by Smith-Rivera.
