The top-ranked Kentucky Wildcats visit the Florida Gators on Saturday night in clash of SEC rivals.
Florida beat Kentucky three times last season, twice in the regular season and in the championship game of the SEC Tournament. However, these two teams are almost nothing like the two teams from last season.
Kentucky struggled most of the year last year before making a postseason run that took them to the national title game. This year’s Kentucky team is 22-0 and is clearly the best in the country.
Last season, Florida rolled through the SEC with an 18-0 record and earned a spot in the Final Four. But this year, Billy Donovan has seen his team struggle to a 12-10 record, including a 5-4 mark in the SEC.
Florida has lost four of its last six games, including a tough 67-61 loss to the Vanderbilt Commodores on Tuesday night. That same evening, Kentucky held off the feisty Georgia Bulldogs 69-58 at Rupp Arena.
Sophomore guard Aaron Harrison continues to lead Kentucky in scoring, averaging 11.0 points per game. Freshman guard Devin Booker is the only other Wildcat averaging double figures, as he scores 10.6 points per contest.
Junior guard Michael Frazier has carried the Gators at times this season, and is their leading scorer at 13.4 points per game. Dorian Finney-Smith averages 12.8 points per game.
Kentucky head coach John Calipari says he won’t use the three losses to Florida last season as a motivator for this game. The reason is, he won’t have to, the players who were on the team last year remember. That, plus superior talent, wins this one for the Wildcats.
Final score prediction: Kentucky 69, Florida 59
