The VCU Rams were surprisingly upset at the hands of the St. Bonaventure Bonnies, meaning that after a seven-game unbeaten streak to open Atlantic 10 play the Rams have lost two of their last three games. Hoping that this recent trend is a fluke, Shaka Smart and Co. will face off with the La Salle Explorers at home on Wednesday, Feb. 11 at 7 p.m. ET on CBS Sports Network.
La Salle has looked capable of pulling off upsets at times this season when playing at home, but they have looked dreadful on the road, falling apart late in games that they stood a chance of winning. Led in scoring by sophomore transfer from the Auburn Tigers Jordan Price, the Explorers have key underclassmen from which to build on. Every game from here on out is becoming less and less about winning and more and more about improving as players and a team.
The Rams have not been more vulnerable this season than they are right now. They have been dominant all season but have looked shaky in their last few games. If the Explorers were to pull off the upset, they have the perfect opportunity on Wednesday night.
Does La Salle stand a chance? Of course. Price could have the game of his life and go off for 30 or more points and VCU could lose another game. However, you can’t expect this team to continue to slump like they have been. The Rams will roll in this one, as this team begins to build momentum heading into March. Briante Weber may be gone, but this team still has more talent than most.
Prediction: VCU 78, La Salle 67
