After entering the season with high expectations, the Nebraska Cornhuskers sit at 13-12 with little hope of making a postseason tournament. In order to make the 2015 Tournament, the Cornhuskers are going to need to win the Big 10 Tournament, meaning that Nebraska needs to string some wins together and improve their seeding now.
However, their next opponents, the Maryland Terrapins, will believe they have a legitimate chance at earning a No. 1 seed for the 2015 NCAA tournament by winning out. These two teams face off Thursday, Feb. 19, at 7 PM ET on the Big Ten Network.
Maryland has barely scraped out wins in their last two games, but are currently two and a half games behind the Wisconsin Badgers at the top of the Big 10 standings with four games remaining, including a game against the Badgers. The Terrapins aren’t flashy, but they get things done and are perhaps the most “clutch” team in college basketball, winning six games this season by two baskets or less.
Nebraska seems to have the opposite problem. Where Maryland has come through late in game, the Cornhuskers seem to fall apart. Whether it’s focus, coaching or a serious lack of depth remains to be seen, but this team should have been much better this season with the talent on the roster.
Expect the Cornhuskers to continue their late game disappointment, as the Terrapins pull out another fairly close victory at home to continue their hopes of winning the Big 10 regular season title.
