Matchup: Massachusetts Minutemen (16-10) vs. VCU Rams (20-6)
Believe it or not, the Rams are not a lock to make the 2015 NCAA tournament. After all, losing the rest of their games would spell doom. Also, Massachusetts could still make the dance. Therefore, this should be a solid game that will feature two teams fighting for a spot in the dance.
However, VCU is much closer to earning that bid than the Minutemen — that is obvious. Still, both teams are fighting for a regular season conference title. The Rams are tied for first in the conference standings. Massachusetts is only one game back, though. Things are definitely tight in the Atlantic 10 this year.
What to Watch For
Before going down to the Rhode Island Rams, the Minutemen were riding a six-game winning streak. Regardless, they have four players who are averaging 10 or more points per game.
VCU lost Briante Weber for the season, but it still has plenty of talent. In fact, Treveon Graham is averaging 15.9 points per game, and is without a doubt a top player in this conference.
Prediction
Although VCU isn’t exactly unbeatable this year, it will be playing at home in this game. It also helps that it is riding a two-game winning streak, which includes a road victory over the George Washington Colonials.
Regardless, it is crunch time, meaning now is the time for teams to make their case for an NCAA tournament bid. A win in this game would certainly help Massachusetts out quite a bit, but we just don’t see that one happening.
