The Kentucky Wildcats face their biggest test of the SEC schedule when they face the Arkansas Razorbacks on Saturday at Rupp Arena.
Kentucky is 28-0, off to the best start in school history and in search of college basketball’s first unbeaten season in 39 years. Kentucky has had some close calls along the way, but has won its last four games by an average of 26.3 points.
Sophomore shooting guard Aaron Harrison leads the team in scoring, averaging 11.2 points per game. His backup, freshman guard Devin Booker, is second on the team, averaging 11.1 points per contest. Freshman big man Karl-Anthony Towns averages 9.3 points and a team-leading 6.6 rebounds per game.
Arkansas will not be scared of Kentucky. Last season, the Razorbacks beat the Wildcats twice, including a win in Lexington. And the core of that team is also on this year’s Arkansas squad.
The Razorbacks are 23-5 overall and 12-3 in the SEC for head coach Mike Anderson. Arkansas has won its last seven games and 10 of its last 11.
Forward Bobby Portis is a candidate for several national awards, and it’s no wonder. The sophomore big man averages 17.6 points, 8.5 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per contest to lead the team in each category. Junior Michael Qualls scores 15.1 points per game, while Rashad Madden averages 9.9 points and a team-leading 4.8 assists.
Arkansas has the athleticism, depth and size to match up with Kentucky. They also have the confidence of beating Kentucky twice last season. But the crowd at Rupp Arena on Saturday will be loud and disruptive, which should propel Kentucky to a close win.
