Matchup: BYU Cougars (22-8) vs. Gonzaga Bulldogs (29-1)
You know what BYU could use right about now? A win over Gonzaga. The Cougars are still fighting for a spot in the tournament. Unfortunately, the Bulldogs are a top team in college basketball and have only lost one game this season.
With that in mind, BYU has a lethal offense (more like the No. 1 offense in the nation) and arguably the best scorer in college hoops as well. The team is averaging a beastly 84.4 points per game. The Bulldogs aren’t too far behind, as they are averaging 79 PPG.
What to Watch For
The No. 1 player to watch in this game plays for BYU. His name is Tyler Haws. Averaging a whopping 22.3 points per game, Haws has to come up big in this contest. If he is contained, the Cougars won’t even have a chance.
The Bulldogs have a boatload of talent, so take your pick on who to watch out for. For the purposes of this game, we will focus in on Kevin Pangos, who is an amazing three-point shooter (44.8 percent from three).
Prediction
Hopefully this is one of those games where both teams trade basket for basket. We are dealing with two of the highest scoring teams in the nation, after all. Plus, the two teams combined for 167 points in the first game (Gonzaga won, of course).
Although the Bulldogs could end up winning a title this year, it’s almost March, so let’s go with some madness. BYU wins in a shootout on the road. Don’t be surprised when Haws goes off for 30+.
