The Alabama Crimson Tide flirted with the NCAA tournament bubble for a few weeks this season, but injuries have led to this team’s only hope at making the Big Dance winning the SEC tournament. A trip to the NIT may be what head coach Anthony Grant needs to save his job, but it’s still going to be another “what if” season for the Crimson Tide for what seems like the millionth season in a row.
First things first, if Alabama is to stand even the slightest chance at winning the SEC tournament, they must finish in the top eight of the conference regular season standings in order to get at least one bye game in conference play. To do that, they will need to upset their next opponents, the Ole Miss Rebels, who Alabama face at home on Tuesday, Mar. 3 at 7 p.m. ET on the SEC Network.
Ole Miss just lost a disappointing game to the LSU Tigers, but should be fairly certain that they are a solid lock for the 2015 NCAA tournament. Jarvis Summers was expected to lead this team in scoring, but transfer Stefan Moody has taken over this team offensively. Moody has willed this team to victory in several games and is arguably the most “clutch” player in college basketball.
Injuries and a lack of depth have hampered the Crimson Tide all season. They might be a more physical defense than Ole Miss comes into this game expecting, but eventually the Rebels will figure things out. Give this one to one of the biggest “sleeper” teams for the 2015 NCAA tournament, Ole Miss.
