The No. 2 seeded Arkansas Razorbacks survived the No. 10 seeded Tennessee Volunteers behind an outstanding performance by Bobby Portis, but will not have time to celebrate their win, as they play the No. 3 seeded Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC Tournament semi-finals Saturday, March 14, at 3 p.m. ET on ESPN.
Georgia fought back against the upset-minded, No. 11 seeded South Carolina Gamecocks, but finally were able to pull away late in the second half. The Bulldogs were able to survive a physical team that was desperate to prove themselves, which is a very good sign for this team moving forward.
The winner of this game will face either the No. 1 seeded Kentucky Wildcats or No. 13 seeded Auburn Tigers. However, it’s a safe bet to assume that the winner will face Kentucky in the championship game. Georgia played Kentucky close twice and Arkansas struggled in Rupp, but both teams should feel fairly confident that they can at least compete against the potentially undefeated Wildcats.
Portis will get his points for the Razorbacks, so it will be up to the Georgia defense to stifle players like Michael Qualls and Rashad Madden. Arkansas, on the other hand, will have to focus on team defense. Georgia prides themselves on their ability to spread the ball around and not rely on one player to win. Two of the most physical teams in the SEC, it will be key for both teams to avoid foul trouble.
Expect this game to be low scoring, but come down to a few big plays by either Portis or the hardest working man in college basketball, Nemanja Djurisic.
