A No. 2 seed has gone down to a No. 15 seed in the NCAA tournament before. Heck, a couple years back, No. 2 seeds Duke and Missouri went down on the same night — to No. 15 seeds, that is.
Although we all hope for the major upset, it is not going to happen in this game.
The Arizona Wildcats are good enough to be a No. 1 seed. It didn’t play out like that, but the Wildcats only have three losses and an endless amount of talent.
The Texas Southern Tigers have 12 losses.
What to Watch For
Stanley Johnson is the Wildcats’ leading scorer (14.1 PPG). However, five other players are averaging nine or more points per game. Needless to say, a number of different players on Arizona can come up big in the scoring department. However, it is the team’s defense that will make life for opposing teams difficult.
Texas Southern is led by Madarious Gibbs (14.1 PPG). It is going to take a full team effort (and a perfect game) for the Tigers to pull off the victory.
Prediction
Texas Southern has played a number of quality opponents this year. Opponents like the Michigan State Spartans and Gonzaga Bulldogs. Plus, it actually knocked off the Spartans. Its out-of-conference schedule was brutal so playing a team like Arizona will not completely throw it off guard. Being tournament tested is one thing, but actually knocking off a team like the Wildcats is a completely different story.
Arizona is a No. 2 seed for a reason, and it should have no problem winning this one.
Arizona 81, Texas Southern 52
