The Arkansas Razorbacks were clearly one of the top 25 teams in the country this season and they were the second-best team in the SEC. Mike Anderson led his club to a 26-8 record, but his team has lost three of its last six games heading into the tournament. The good news for Anderson and his team is that two of those three losses were to the Kentucky Wildcats.
Wofford is 28-6 on the season and this team will not be an easy out. The Terriers beat the N.C. State Wolfpack in Raleigh earlier this season, so this is not a team that will be intimidated by a big-name opponent.
What to Watch For
Arkansas plays its up-tempo, pressing style and they will look to push the pace. Arkansas’ big man Bobby Portis was the SEC Player of the Year and his size and skill will be tough for Wofford to match. Add in jumping jack Michael Qualls and the Razorbacks become even more athletic.
Wofford would prefer to play more of a grind-it-out style. The Terriers give up just 59.8 points per game, which is 27th in the country. Wofford has allowed opponents to score 70 or more points just six times this season. Senior guard Karl Cochran leads the team in scoring at 14.6 points per outing.
Prediction
This is a game of contrasting styles. It would be easy to say that the team that plays its style will win, but Arkansas will have a big advantage in size and athleticism. The Razorbacks need to make sure they are scoring so they can set up their press and force the pace. If they can do that, they should get past the Terriers.
Arkansas 77, Wofford 64
