How They Qualified: At-large
The LSU Tigers have had an inconsistent season, but there’s no question that this team has a significant amount of talent on the team. LSU has as good of a one-two punch of big men as just about any team in the country with Jordan Mickey and Jarell Martin on the inside.
LSU has played with, and even beaten, some very good teams this season. However, there are also a couple of bad losses on their resume, which resulted in a lower seed for the 2015 NCAA Tournament.
What You Need to Know:
Leading Scorer: Jarell Martin, 16.9 ppg
Leading Rebounder: Jordan Mickey, 9.8 rpg
Leading Passer: Josh Gray, Tim Quarterman, 3.9 apg
Bad Losses: at Missouri, at Mississippi State, Auburn (twice)
Good Wins: West Virginia, Georgia, Ole Miss
If Johnny Jones can get his team to protect the ball and get it to Mickey and Martin, this team can be dangerous. With Keith Hornsby shooting from outside, there is a good balance on offense. Mickey and Martin are also dangerous on the defensive end, blocking and altering shots.
It’s not inconceivable for LSU to make a tournament run. However, their inconsistency makes that unlikely. The lack of tournament experience will also hurt LSU in close games.
