No wonder why the Kansas Jayhawks never want to schedule the Wichita State Shockers.
Kansas may have not wanted the ultimate Kansas matchup to go down, but the tournament committee surely did. The two Kansas state squads finally met up. Needless to say, the Shockers handled the “best” team in Kansas with ease. When the final whistle was blown, the scoreboard read 78-65 in the Shockers’ favor.
All with one win, Wichita State has gained the bragging rights for the state of Kansas and has also shown the rest of the 2015 NCAA tournament field that it is legit.
Wichita State will play the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the Sweet 16, and it should really like its chances of coming away with the victory.
Regardless, Wichita State finally got to take it to big brother, if you will. The two teams had not played in over 20 years and the Shockers can now have state bragging rights for another 20 years (or however long it takes the two teams to play each other again). No longer are the Shockers the “other guy” in the state.
Head coach Gregg Marshall and his team took this opportunity and crushed it to the max. It is going to take Kansas a little while to get over this loss. However, Shockers fans should never get over this one. Why should they?
They just got done clobbering the Jayhawks in the NCAA tournament. This was no regular season game and it wasn’t just any NCAA tournament game (okay, so all Big Dance games are pretty big). This was Wichita State’s moment to take over the state and stick it to Kansas for not adding the in-state Shockers to the schedule year after year.
You could definitely say Wichita State succeeded in making Bill Self and the Jayhawks look foolish (or made Kansas look brilliant for never wanting this game to go down).
