The Arizona State Sun Devils were in search of a coach, but they found their guy today.

As you can see from the tweet above, Bobby Hurley has seen quite a bit of success over the past two years. Buffalo may not be the biggest name in college basketball, but the Bulls did make the 2015 NCAA tournament as a No. 12 seed. They didn’t do much in the dance, but making the tournament is making the tournament.
As for the Sun Devils, they finished with an 18-16 record. Needless to say, they did not make the tournament (unless we’re talking about the NIT).
Coaching in the Pac-12 will be a completely different beast than coaching in the MAC. It will be interesting to see if Hurley can bring in highly-rated recruits, compete with the Arizona Wildcats and really compete in the Pac-12 in general.
All of those questions will be answered in time, but the hiring of Hurley as the head coach is an interesting one — to say the least.
Arizona State’s last NCAA tournament appearance wasn’t long ago (2014), but Hurley is going to have to do his very best to make this team a contender on a yearly basis.
He saw success at Buffalo and he should be able to see success in Tempe as well given his background in the sport. After all, he was a star at Duke once upon a time.
