The Bob Cousy Award is given away annually to college basketball‘s best point guard. The award is named after NBA legend Bob Cousy who won six championships with the Boston Celtics. This year, Delon Wright was named the winner of the award, and nobody could be more deserving.

Wright averaged 14.5 points, 5.1 assists, 4.9 rebounds, 2.1 steals and one block per game for the Utah Utes this season. The crazy thing? His numbers were down from a season ago. If by just looking at the numbers, it would appear that Wright had regressed in his senior season, but that’s far from the truth. Wright didn’t have to produce as much on this year’s team because the Utes were so much better this season than the last. Wright was able to make his teammates better just by being on the floor.
There’s nothing on the basketball court that Delon Wright can’t do. He’s excellent in getting past defenders and finishing around the rim, but he’s also adept at creating open shots for his teammates. Wright has tremendous court vision, can rebound and has superior on ball defensive skills. If there’s one thing he can’t do, according to critics, it’s shoot the basketball from deep; although he doesn’t take a lot of threes, Wright still shot a respectable 35.6 percent from long range this year.
Some thought that Tyus Jones would win the award, especially after Duke’s national title run and Jones’ big shot to put Duke up by eight late in the title game.
Wright was a complete point guard at the college level and should see success at the next level for whichever organization is smart enough to take him.
