A conflict of where games between the Indiana Hoosiers and Kentucky Wildcats basketball programs — which played each other from 1969-2012 — should take place led to the storied college basketball rivalry taking a hiatus.
However, that could all be changing soon much to the joy of hoops fans.
According to a report from Anthony Schoettle of the Indianapolis Business Journal, Indiana and Kentucky officials seem to have finally reached an agreement on where the games should take place.
Indiana had previously preferred on-campus games, while Kentucky was okay with neutral sites.
“Things evolve. Hopefully, things have cooled down, passions have cooled since our last conversation and we can revisit this,” Hoosiers athletic director Fred Glass said. “I’d definitely like to make another run at [putting a deal together to restore the rivalry]. Hope springs eternal.”
The report adds:
There appears to be reason for optimism. Kentucky officials confirmed this week to the IBJ that conversations between the two schools have recently taken place about reviving one of the biggest rivalries in men’s college basketball.
If a deal can be reached, college basketball fans will have to be ecstatic that the rivalry can finally take place again. When the two teams play, the atmosphere is always exciting.
