The Georgia Bulldogs had a very good season in 2015. Georgia advanced to the NCAA Tournament and finished with a 21-12 record overall while facing a tough schedule.

On Friday, Georgia awarded head coach Mark Fox a contract extension which will keep him in Athens through the 2019-2020 season. Fox will make $2 million per year with the new contract and he has earned every penny of it.

When Fox took over at Georgia, the Bulldogs were struggling, coming off of a 12-20 season under former head coach Dennis Felton. Fox was brought in to fix the problems at Georgia and he has done a good job with that task.

In six seasons at the helm of the Georgia program, Fox has a record of 106-89. His teams have won 23 games in the SEC over the past two seasons and it’s clear that Georgia is now near the top of the conference, rather than at the bottom.

Georgia is making a smart move by keeping Fox long-term. He is as good as anyone in the SEC in strategy and coaching from the bench. If he can find a way to keep the talent from Atlanta and the state of Georgia from going elsewhere, he can have even more success than he has had already.

SEC schools have upgraded their coaches this off-season, with Ben Howland going to the Mississippi State Bulldogs and Rick Barnes landing the head coaching duties for the Tennessee Volunteers. Georgia can feel confident that they have their own outstanding coach in place with Fox’s extension.
