This Big Ten/ACC Challenge clash is big. Like future national championship game big — well, in a dream scenario, that is.
The Maryland Terrapins and North Carolina Tar Heels entered the season with plenty of hype, and now we get to see two of the most talented teams in the country go head-to-head.
What we will also get to see in this showdown: Marcus Paige. Paige has not played a single game in the 2015-16 college basketball season thanks to an injury. It would only make sense if one of the top players in the country made his season debut in this big-stage showdown.
Paige might have already missed some time, but he could end up being the Player of the Year regardless — he is that good. He isn’t the only Player of the Year candidate who will take the court, though. Enter Melo Trimble. Trimble could have gone pro last season after his freshman year — and he would have gone high — but he decided to return instead.
There are so many great players in this game who could go off. You know, guys like Rasheed Sulaimon and Jake Layman for Maryland, and talents like Justin Jackson and Kennedy Meeks for North Carolina. Outside of those four, there are plenty of other players who could go off in this contest, which is why this game could be one of the best ones of the regular season, and also why both teams entered the year with national title contender written all over them.
The Tar Heels get this one at home and that is a pretty big advantage. No matter who comes out on top, this is college hoops at its finest.
PREDICTION: Terrapins 73, Tar Heels 72
