Don’t look now, but the Butler Bulldogs and Xavier Musketeers are two of the best teams in college basketball. Butler enters this showdown with a record of 11-2 and Xavier will do battle with a 12-1 record.
That said, both squads enter this top 25 showdown on a one-game losing streak. Butler went down to the Providence Friars last contest and Xavier lost to the Villanova Wildcats in their last clash. That leaves both teams with a Big East record of 0-1 to start off conference play.
Notable wins time:
Butler’s biggest victories of the 2015-16 college basketball season have come against Cincinnati and Purdue.
Xavier’s biggest victories have come against Michigan, Alabama, USC, Dayton, Cincinnati and Wake Forest.
Needless to say, their resumes are already looking very worthy.
Some notable guys to watch out for on the Bulldogs: Kellen Dunham, Kelan Martin and Roosevelt Jones.
Turning the ball over, here are some notable Musketeers to keep an eye on: Trevon Bluiett and Edmond Sumner. Note: Sumner left last game on a stretcher.
Either team is very capable of winning the Big East, but both teams already found out that life in the new Big East is still rather tough. This conference is already proving to have some serious NCAA tournament contenders, and the Bulldogs and Musketeers are clearly part of that conversation.
In terms of this game, expect Dunham to take over, and for Butler to move to 1-1 in conference play.
PREDICTION: Bulldogs 81, Musketeers 77
