The Wisconsin Badgers could use two key things right about now: (1) A signature win. (2) A winning streak. Luckily for them, they get the Maryland Terrapins at home next.
Speaking of Maryland, it has gotten off to a 14-1 start, is ranked No. 3 and could end up winning a championship when the season comes to an end. Wisconsin sits at 9-7, lost Bo Ryan early on and looks far from an NCAA tournament team right now.
The Terrapins’ one loss came against the North Carolina Tar Heels. They don’t have the most impressive resume in college hoops, but their worth is not in question, and they are already 3-0 in Big Ten play.
To make a long story short, the Badgers have lost to teams like Western Illinois and Milwaukee. Translation: They may need a miracle to make the Big Dance. Wisconsin does have a win against Syracuse, though … but it is already 1-2 in conference play.
The Terps have five guys who are putting up double figures in the scoring department, but none better than Melo Trimble. However, and quite simple, this squad is stacked.
Two players to watch out for on Wisconsin during conference play are Nigel Hayes and Bronson Koenig. However, the losses of Frank Kaminsky and Sam Dekker have been costly to the Badgers — because of course they have.
Maryland is likely going to lose a couple of games in the Big Ten this season (it is the Big Ten, after all), but don’t expect one of the nation’s best teams to drop this contest.
PREDICTION: Terrapins 71, Badgers 63
