If the Maryland Terrapins win this Big Ten contest, they will continue to prove that they are a top team in college basketball. However, if the Michigan Wolverines pull off the upset, they will continue to prove that they are an NCAA tournament team. Not to mention, they will make some serious Big Ten noise in the process.
Maryland enters this contest with a 15-1 record and is ranked No. 3 in the country. Michigan enters with a 12-4 record.
The Wolverines are also coming off of a loss against the Purdue Boilermakers, but they were riding a six-game winning streak before that. The Terrapins have now won nine in a row. They are also 4-0 in conference play while the Wolverines are 2-1.
As is the case with any team that takes on the Terps, Michigan will have to somehow find a way to contain players like Melo Trimble, Diamond Stone and a few others — well, if it is planning on getting the W, that is. That said, Maryland is also rather stingy on the defensive side of the ball, as it is only giving up 63.6 PPG. Michigan comes in at 62.6 PPG in that department.
Unfortunately, the Wolverines are a different team without Caris LeVert, but that can be expected for any team when it is without its leading scorer.
LeVert playing in this showdown or note, it is tough to go against a team as stacked as Maryland. After all, the Terrapins are considered a top team in this sport for a reason.
PREDICTION: Terrapins 74, Wolverines 64
