Thanks to the ACC being stacked with some of the best teams in the country, we get to see matchups like this one: Miami vs. Virginia.
Both squads enter this contest with top 25 rankings. However, and although the Cavaliers entered the season as national title contenders, it is the Hurricanes who are ranked as high as No. 8 in college hoops. It is also the Hurricanes who are riding quite the winning streak (an eight-game winning streak to be exact).
The Cavaliers — if you can believe it — have lost two games in a row, and sit at 1-2 in ACC play as a result.
Of course, Virginia is still one of the best defensive teams in the game (only allowing 60.9 PPG). Meanwhile, Miami is giving up 64.8 PPG, but it is also averaging 82.8 PPG. Virginia is only putting up 74.4 PPG.
As we have seen during the 2015-16 college basketball season — and basically every other season as well — anything can happen in this sport. In terms of this matchup, Virginia has the clear edge since it will be playing at home, a place where it has yet to lose this season.
Nonetheless, the Hurricanes have stormed onto the scene in a big way, and the ACC better take note. If Miami does in fact knock off Virginia in this showdown, fans from all over the country should take the Hurricanes as serious national title contenders.
Stay tuned for that one, and of course, enjoy the game.
PREDICTION: Hurricanes 72, Cavaliers 65
