At this point, we don’t need to be surprised by the fact that the ACC is a major factor in college basketball and the recruiting process. It definitely shouldn’t surprise us that, in a 15 team conference, 10 of those teams are among the top 50 schools in recruiting. Here’s what’s interesting. History has shown us there aren’t many schools in the country that can boast excellent teams in both football and basketball; but in the ACC, many schools are looking to change that. Traditional basketball powers are starting to see the importance of college football and the money making machine it is. Many teams we associate with football are starting to put a better product on the basketball court as well.
That brings us to the Florida State Seminoles. So far, it’s been a tad bit disappointing, and when you look at what’s transpired, you have to think this isn’t how it was supposed to be. If the season ended today, the Seminoles would be looking at an 11th place finish. That would be disappointing considering this team ruffled a few feathers last year, and this was supposed to be the year that they took the next step. So far, they haven’t, but there is some good news for the citizens of Tallahassee.
Jonathan Isaac, Trent Forrest and C.J. Walker will all be heading to the ACC next year and wearing gold and garnet. It’s anybody’s guess what Leonard Hamilton is saying when he walks into the living rooms of these young men, but these guys had quite a list options and all decided to go with him. Isaac is 6-foot-10, and as funny as it sounds, he’s listed as a small forward (it just seems strange to say you can be 6-foot-10 and still be called small). He’s one of the top 10 players coming out of high school and No. 1 in the state at his position. Forrest and Walker will help anchor the back court.
Cue the chant. You may be hearing it a little more often of the basketball court. There’s still time to get things turned around this year too, so we’ll see what happens.
