The Gonzaga Bulldogs might not win the WCC title this season. That just sounds weird. Of course, they still have a great chance of achieving that feat. The Bulldogs must take on the Saint Mary’s Gaels next.
Believe it or not, Saint Mary’s enters with the better record at 15-2. However, Gonzaga isn’t too shabby either, and has the 14-4 record to prove it.
Although the Bulldogs entered the season with Final Four aspirations, they have done what so many other top dogs in college hoops have done in 2015-16 — disappointed a bit. This team still has the talent to not only make the dance, though, but go far as well. That tends to be the case when you have two of the best players in the country on your team (I’m looking at you, Kyle Wiltjer and Domantas Sabonis).
Considering the Gaels and Bulldogs are both 6-1 in the WCC, this is a big one. After all, the winner will gain some serious bragging rights, and said bragging rights can go a long way.
Let’s check out some numbers: Gonzaga is putting up 80.2 points per game and giving up 66.2 PPG. Saint Mary’s is averaging 78.5 PPG and its stingy defense is only allowing 58 points per contest.
The Gaels have the goods to knock off Gonzaga, and they could go on to win the WCC after that. However, I am not going to be the one who goes against the Bulldogs. Well, not when they have studs like Wiltjer and Sabonis, that is. Side note: Both players are averaging over 17 points per game.
PREDICTION: Bulldogs 65, Gaels 64
