TV Schedule: Saturday, Jan. 23, 2:00 p.m. ET, FSN
Arena: Cintas Center, Cincinnati, Ohio
Line: Xavier (-8.5)
After a disappointing home loss to the Georgetown Hoyas, the Xavier Musketeers fell to 2.5 games behind the Villanova Wildcats for the top spot in the Big East conference standings. With two months or so left until the end of conference play, trailing by 2.5 games is not that big of a deal.
Unfortunately, the Big East is the most difficult conference from top to bottom in college basketball, so Xavier will have to keep their foot on the gas as the Seton Hall Pirates come to Cincinnati on Saturday afternoon.
Seton Hall is coming off of a disappointing one-point loss to the Wildcats that could have saved their season, but they will be more than ready to try and knock off Xavier. The Pirates have lost three of their opening six conference games and have been shaky on the road this season, meaning that it will take an extreme amount of focus to even come close to knocking off the No. 5 ranked Musketeers.
Although I expect them to falter a few more times before the season ends, Xavier is one of the best teams in the country. Few teams are as all-around talented as the Musketeers, and Xavier is definitely one of the deepest teams in college basketball. I believe Seton Hall will pull off a big-time upset before the season ends, but the Musketeers get the win at home on Saturday afternoon and head into their road game with the Providence Friars full of confidence.
Prediction: Xavier 75, Seton Hall 66
