Thanks to the ACC being loaded with powerhouses, we get to see matchups as great as this one — well, at least on paper — all of the time.
In this weekend’s ACC festivities, the Virginia Cavaliers will take on the Louisville Cardinals.
Some resume work: Virginia is ranked as high as No. 11, it is 16-4 overall and it is 5-3 in the ACC. Its biggest wins have come against the West Virginia Mountaineers, Villanova Wildcats and Miami Hurricanes. The Cavs also have plenty of solid wins outside of those ones.
As for Louisville, it is ranked as high as No. 14, it has an overall record of 17-3 and it is 6-1 in conference play. The Cardinals have signature wins against, well, no one really. Yes, they did knock off squads like Florida State and Pittsburgh, but they certainly don’t have the quality wins that Virginia has.
Luckily, the Cardinals can change that in a hurry with a victory over the Cavaliers.
It’s going to be interesting to see how this one plays out. Both teams have stingy defenses, after all. Louisville is only allowing 60 points per game and Virginia is giving up 61.9 points per game. However, the Cardinals are averaging 80.9 PPG and the Cavs are only putting up 72.9 PPG. Quite the difference, one might say.
Although Louisville will be playing at home and appears to have the goods to win the ACC, I have to go with Virginia. Nonetheless, we should be in store for quite the ACC treat.
PREDICTION: Cavaliers 63, Cardinals 57
