TV Schedule: Tuesday, Feb. 9, 7:00 p.m. ET, ESPN2
Arena: Allen Fieldhouse, Lawrence, KS
Line: Kansas (-7)
The West Virginia Mountaineers lead the Big 12 by just one game, but several teams are closing in on them quickly. Their next opponents, the Kansas Jayhawks, are just one game back and will be more than ready to get their hands on the top spot in the conference.
Earlier in the season when Kansas was ranked No. 1 in the country, West Virginia pulled off the upset at home. Now ranked at the No. 6 spot, the Jayhawks might actually be underrated.
Kansas has looked absolutely fantastic this season despite freshmen Cheick Diallo and Carlton Bragg yet to have a marquee breakout game, and this team should only continue to improve as we get closer to March.
That being said, do not count out WVU. The Mountaineers will come into this matchup extremely confident after their 11-point win earlier in the season, and coming off of two straight wins over top 15 opponents, the Iowa State Cyclones and the Baylor Bears. Their offense gets most of the attention, but it is their defense that has been impressive as of late.
Unfortunately, I do not believe they have it in them to win on the road in Allen Fieldhouse. Kansas seems to take it to another level when at home, and the Jayhawks are still my pick to win it all. Expect a good game between two top teams, but Kansas to pull away in the second half and take their deserved place at the top of the Big 12 standings.
Prediction: Kansas 72, West Virginia 66
