The Butler Bulldogs are considered solidly in the 2016 NCAA tournament at this point in the season, but that could change quickly if they start dropping games with an extremely difficult portion of their schedule coming up. After losing to the Xavier Musketeers at home, the Bulldogs will get the Creighton Bluejays in Indianapolis and then travel to face off with the No. 1 Villanova Wildcats and Georgetown Hoyas. Although the road matchups with Villanova and Georgetown will be the more important games, the Bulldogs cannot afford to overlook the Bluejays, who currently sit above Butler in the Big East standings and defeated them earlier in the season.
After a horrible three game losing streak in late-January, Creighton has bounced back with three straight wins to work their way into the top three in the Big East. The Bluejays, who most have outside of the 2016 NCAA tournament at the moment, have taken their defense to the next level, defeating the then No. 5 Musketeers at home and then going on the road to defeat the Marquette Golden Eagles. A win over the Bulldogs might be enough to catapult them into the tournament picture moving forward.
That being said, it’s extremely difficult to win on the road in the Big East. The Bulldogs have lost just one game at home in conference play, and the Bluejays have lost three times on the road. Expect this one to come down to whichever team can get to 65 first, but I’m giving it to Butler at home.
Prediction: Butler 68, Creighton 63
