No team in college basketball has fallen from grace faster than the Vanderbilt Commodores.
Once thought to be a potential top-10 team, the Commodores have lost to some bad teams in the second half of the season, including a recent comeback loss to the Mississippi State Bulldogs. Still on the bubble for the 2016 NCAA tournament, Vanderbilt might have to win out in the regular season if they want to make it in without participating in a play-in game.
Next up for Vanderbilt is an opportunity to prove to themselves and their fans that this is not the beginning of a massive collapse, as the Georgia Bulldogs travel to Nashville to face off in Memorial Gym.
The Bulldogs are not going to the 2016 NCAA tournament without winning the SEC tournament, but this team still has a chance to push for the NIT and some form of postseason play with some big wins down the stretch. Yante Maten and J.J. Frazier, who have been two of the best players for the Bulldogs this season, should both return next season, meaning that some positive momentum at the end of this season could be absolutely massive for this young-ish team moving forward.
That being said, Vanderbilt has looked extremely solid at home this season, losing no SEC games in Memorial Gym. Georgia would probably stand more of a chance if the Commodores were not coming off of their most disappointing loss of the season, but Vandy bounces back from their loss to Mississippi State by dominating the Bulldogs.
Prediction: Vanderbilt 78, Georgia 67
