The Georgetown Hoyas have had an absolutely dreadful 2015-16 season, sitting with a 14-13 record with just four games to go. As if things could not get any worse for the Hoyas, Georgetown faces two top 10 teams out of those four, including their next opponents the No. 8 Xavier Musketeers.
Xavier and Georgetown will face off on Saturday afternoon at the Verizon Center in Washington D.C with little on the line for Georgetown outside of pride, but the Big East on the line for the Musketeers.
The Musketeers, have won two straight since their disappointing road loss to the Creighton Bluejays, but, more importantly are just 1.5 games behind the No. 1 Villanova Wildcats for first place in the Big East with a game against Villanova remaining. Winning out would assure at least a share of the Big East regular season title, so showing up on the road against Georgetown on Saturday is absolutely necessary.
Xavier averages over 79 points per game, which is good enough for No. 37 in the nation. Georgetown, on the other hand, is allowing over 69.9 points per game, which is ranked No. 132. Sure, the Hoyas should be able to put up a fight at home, but the Musketeers are a superior team in almost every aspect of their game. I do not see a scenario in which the Hoyas pull off the upset, unless this team plays their best game of the season.
The Musketeers might not get as much national attention as Villanova, but they could quickly work their way into the conversation for a No. 1 seed in the 2016 NCAA tournament very soon.
Prediction: Xavier 77, Georgetown 68
