The Purdue Boilermakers and Maryland Terrapins have the goods to do some serious damage during March Madness. Before they get there, though, they have to close out the brutalness that is Big Ten play and the Big Ten tourney.
If both teams close (aka win the rest of their regular season games), they could do some serious rising in the NCAA tournament seed department. That said, both teams are locks for the dance, and they will meet up for a Big Ten duel on Saturday.
The Terrapins are coming off of a win against Michigan and still have contests against Illinois and Indiana to close out the regular season. The Boilermakers dropped their last contest against the Hoosiers and still have to take on Nebraska and Wisconsin.
Other than seeding for the Big Dance, here’s something else that is on the line in this clash: Maryland is 1.5 games back in the Big Ten standings. Purdue is 3.5 games back, so it won’t win the regular season title, but it certainly has the talent to claim the Big Ten tourney title.
You might as well get out your favorite coin and flip it over and over again to try to decide who wins this battle. Maryland entered the season as a serious title threat and it remains just that, while the Boilermakers will be at home and have entered the title threat conversation throughout the season.
Side note: Maryland won the first matchup between these two.
PREDICTION: Terrapins 70, Boilermakers 69
