VCU vs. George Washington: College Basketball Game Preview, Prediction, TV Schedule

By Taylor Sturm

TV Schedule: Saturday, Feb. 27, 12:30 p.m. ET, NBC Sports Network

Arena: Charles E. Smith Center, Washington, D.C.

Three teams are currently tied for first place in the Atlantic 10 Conference standings, including the surging VCU Rams. A late slip up for VCU could be the difference between at least a share of the A-10 regular season title and finishing the season with a massive disappointment.

Next up for VCU is a trip to Washington, D.C., to face off with the George Washington Colonials, who currently sit two games out of first in the A-10 with a slight chance of earning at least a share of the regular season title.

Picked to finish fourth in the A-10 to start the season, GW has pretty much met expectations all season long. They have won the games that they are supposed to win and lost the games that they are not, which actually bodes extremely well for the upcoming A-10 tournament. Consistency is key when it comes to a must-win scenario, something that the Colonials will find themselves face to face with in the conference tournament in order to make the Big Dance.

That being said, Will Wade has been absolutely exceptional in his first year at the helm of the Rams’ basketball program, carrying over the success he had with the Chattanooga Mocs to VCU. Those who wrote the Rams off when Shaka Smart left for the Texas Longhorns could not have been more wrong, and the future of VCU hoops is extremely bright.

Expect a close, good game between two deserving NCAA tournament team, but the Rams to pull it off on the road against a GW team that will probably make their way into the NIT.

Prediction: VCU 74, George Washington 70
