The Cincinnati Bearcats can make life on themselves very easy by knocking off the SMU Mustangs to close out the regular season. With a victory, some pressure is taken off of the Bearcats in the AAC tourney. That said, winning at least a game or two in said AAC tourney would be very helpful when it comes to dancing.
Meanwhile, the Mustangs are not allowed to partake in postseason play, yet they are still ranked in the top 25.
SMU is riding quite the momentum into its final game of the season, as it has won four games in a row. As for Cincinnati, well, it is coming off of a road loss against the Houston Cougars.
As of right now, Joe Lunardi has the Bearcats as a No. 11 seed for the 2016 NCAA tournament. Translation: Although Cincinnati could do some work in its conference tournament, the contest with the Mustangs is huge.
With a loss, the Bearcats might find themselves on the wrong side of the bubble, which is a very dark and lonely place this time of year. Nonetheless, they are 21-9 on the season entering this clash, and they are also 11-6 in conference play. Typically, you would think that would be good enough to clinch a spot in the Big Dance.
Stay tuned for that one.
Note: The Mustangs won the first battle of 2015-16 by the score of 59-57, but Cincinnati gets this one at home — for all it’s worth.
PREDICTION: Mustangs 61, Bearcats 63
