2016 NCAA Tournament Preview: No. 6 Arizona vs. No. 11 Wichita State

By Trevor Lowry

The Wichita State Shockers, for whatever reason, had to prove themselves once again by partaking in a play-in game. Well, they managed to knock off the Vanderbilt Commodores in said play-in game and will take on the Arizona Wildcats next.

If you believe in upsets, then this might be the contest for you.

While the Shockers did struggle early on in the 2015-16 season, they have been rather hot ever since their 2-4 start. Not to mention, they have been here before and Ron Baker and Fred VanVleet are still doing damage at the college level.

Arizona, you have been warned.

What To Watch For

Of course, and once again, Baker and VanVleet alone could lead the Shockers far in the dance.

As for the Wildcats, Ryan Anderson is leading the scoring charge, but two other players on this team (Gabe York and Allonzo Trier) are also averaging 15 or more points per contest.

Wichita State might only be averaging 73.2 points per game, but it is only allowing 59.3 PPG in the process (ranked No. 1 in college basketball in that category). The Wildcats are putting up a whopping 81.2 PPG and giving up 69 PPG.

Prediction

The Wildcats might be the safe pick here, but the Shockers are a very, very talented No. 11 seed. They did enter the season with a ton of hype, after all.

This season has been anything but predictable, and fans shouldn’t be surprised if one of these teams go on a deep run (like Final Four deep). However, the Shockers, who are much better than a No. 11 seed might indicate, will win their second game of the 2016 NCAA tournament against Sean Miller‘s bunch.

Arizona 67, Wichita State 70
