Big-12 Player of the Year Buddy Hield came into the Oklahoma Sooners‘ Elite Eight game against the Oregon Ducks averaging 26.6 points per game in three NCAA Tournament games. With a trip to the Final Four on the line, Hield turned it up a notch as he posted 37 points on 13-of-20 shooting from the field and 8-of-13 from 3-point range in an 80-68 win for the Sooners.
Hield got into one of those zones on Saturday night that you felt as if every shot he put up was going to go in. In addition to his torrid shooting, Hield has shown the ability to drive into the lane and create his own shot, which is something he couldn’t do early in his career.
With Hield graduating and leaving for the NBA following the season, he’s beginning to make a case for himself to be the No. 1 overall pick in June’s NBA Draft. Ben Simmons and Brandon Ingram are still right there, but there’s no shooter in the country who has the ability of Hield.
I’m a huge Ben Simmons fan. Love Brandon Ingram, too. But I give in, if you got the No. 1 NBA draft pick you got to consider Buddy Hield.

Up next for the Sooners will be a matchup against the winner of the Kansas–Villanova game that is still going as of this post. Lon Kruger‘s team faced Kansas twice during the regular season, losing both matchups. I’m sure Hield and his teammates would love to get one more shot at their biggest rivals.
