We all know that football players are tough, but the Purdue Boilermakers Robert Marve may be taking that to another level. The quarterback suffered a torn ACL less than two weeks ago and returned to practice today. Not only did he tear his ACL, but this is the third time he has suffered the injury in his career. He hasn’t been cleared to go through team activities yet by doctors, but they have approved him to work on individual drills.
Thanks to all his knee injuries, Marve is now a six-year senior and he doesn’t want to miss anymore time if possible. The injury occurred in the Boilermakers 20-17 win against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on September 9th. The swelling in his knee has reduced enough for Marve to workout, and he is opting not to have surgery.
Even though the Boilermakers have a bye this week, coach Danny Hope doesn’t expect Marve will be ready for action on September 29th against the Marshall Thundering Herd. The team will be preparing as if Caleb TerBush will be the starter. He looked impressive in last week’s game against the Eastern Michigan Eagles going 16-for-24 and 158 yards, leading Purdue to a 54-16 victory. TerBush also played the game just 24 hours after suffering a migraine headache. He indicated that the headaches are rare and they shouldn’t affect him going forward.
The Boilermakers will need to improve their pass protection to avoid anymore quarterback injuries. They have allowed seven sacks in just three games, and committed a conference worst nine turnovers.
