Temple head coach Steve Addazio is looking for the crowd to provide his team with support this Saturday when undefeated Rutgers comes to town.
In a conversation with the Philadelphia Daily News, Addazio spoke about the home field advantage the Philadelphia crowd can give Temple at Lincoln Financial Field.
“I want to see the Linc on fire,” Addazio said. “I want to see Philadelphia come out for Philadelphia’s team, and really cheer on this gritty football team as we take on the No. 19 ranked team in the country.
Temple has won consecutive Big East games for the first time in history, but this week will be a big test for the conference’s newest team. Rutgers is undefeated, sporting a dominant defense.
If Temple can pull off the upset of the season in the Big East, it’s likely that the crowd will be a big factor. While Rutgers has road wins in Arkansas and South Florida under their belt — likely negating the notion that they’ll be rattled by a crowd — they still have a relatively neophyte starting quarterback in Gary Nova.
Temple is expecting their biggest non-Penn State crowd at Lincoln Financial Field this weekend.
“We want Philadelphia to come alive, coming off two victories and playing a ranked team,” Addazio said. “It’s going to a lot of fun. That’s what this is all about.”
