National signing day is a glorious day in the sporting world. Hundreds of recruits from all around the country get to sign their national letter of intent and hold press conferences announcing where they will spend their college football playing days.
Alex Collins dreamed of announcing his decision like every other top recruit, but he’s had to hold off his announcement due to bizarre circumstances that involves his own mother. Collins, a five-star running back recruit from Fort Lauderdale, verbally committed to Arkansas on Monday and was expected to announce his decision on Wednesday. However, it appears that Collins’ mother has kidnapped his national letter of intent to Arkansas and has run away with it.
Yes, you read that correctly, his mother took his NLI, ran away with the papers and now she can’t be found. ESPNU’s Corey Long reported the story and said that his mother was really torn up about him leaving and going somewhere so far away from their Fort Lauderdale home. Despite the fact that Collins didn’t grow up in the home with his mother (living instead with his high school coach Doug Gatewood), she still doesn’t appear to like the fact that he will be so far away during his college career.
Collins is one of the top rated running backs in the 2013 recruiting class and it would be a huge get for Brett Bielema and Arkansas if they can find his signed NLI. His mother favors Miami but ultimately it should be up to the student-athlete to decide where he wants to play.
Hopefully, for the kids sake, this ends well .
