With Josh Boyce being drafted over the weekend to the New England Patriots in the NFL Draft, the TCU Horned Frogs are looking for their next leading wide receiver to make himself known.
Boyce led the Frogs in every receiving category and broke several records for a season. He was the primary go-to threat for an air attack led by quarterback Trevone Boykin.
The 2013 season marks the return of quarterback Casey Pachall, who was suspended for the 2012 season after being arrested. Head coach Gary Patterson has yet to say which one will be the starter, but the odds are in Pachall’s favor.
As far as receivers with potential to fill in for Boyce’s leadership, the Frogs have a couple on the roster that have the ability to do that. Behind Boyce as far as stats are concerned, Brandon Carter was second in receiving productivity. He finished the season with six touchdowns and was just shy of 600 yards.
If you remember, Carter mistakenly called Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl opponent Michigan at a pre-game press conference when they were actually playing Michigan State. As you can imagine, that didn’t go over very well with Sparty fans.
Another receiver with some experience is LaDarius Brown, who caught 27 passes for 385 yards and five touchdowns as a freshman in 2012. Whichever quarterback Patterson decides to put under center will have two solid options in Carter and Brown.
Many writers have the Frogs ranked pretty high in preseason Big 12 rankings, finishing in the top five. Their first game of the season against the LSU Tigers on a neutral field at Cowboys Stadium will give us good preview on how their Big 12 season should play out.
This is Big 12 football we are talking about here, though. Crazier things have and usually do happen.
