Although the Warhawks are one of the up-and-coming teams in college football, this will be no contest for the Sooners. Beating up on LA-Monroe will be relatively simple for this team and I wouldn’t doubt if the starters were out of the game by the fourth quarter. One guy to watch out for is quarterback Kolton Browning because he can put up monster numbers if the Sooners aren’t careful.
PREDICTION: LA-Monroe 14, Oklahoma 48
Losing Geno Smith is a big loss for the Mountaineers, but they will never roll over and accept defeat. However, returning just 11 starters combined on offense and defense will be the recipe for a tough game against the likely-improved Sooners defense.
PREDICTION: West Virginia 24, Oklahoma 42
The Sooners’ first big test will come against the Golden Hurricane. They finished the 2012 season with an 11-3 record and became a scary small conference squad. They are returning many top offensive weapons including quarterback Cody Green and wide out Keyarris Garrett. This will be a shootout of sorts and could go down to the wire. It’s a good thing the Sooners are at home because this would be a scary road game.
PREDICTION: Tulsa 28, Oklahoma 38
Notre Dame is coming off a national title appearance and it is surely poised for another top-10 finish. Traveling to South Bend is never an easy task and the Sooners’ first road battle of the season will not end well as it looks like the Fighting Irish are contenders once again.
PREDICTION: Oklahoma 21, Notre Dame 24
TCU has starting quarterback Casey Pachall back once again after the senior underwent substance abuse rehab and is back with the squad. Head coach Gary Patterson is returning 16 starters and he could have a possible two-headed monster at quarterback with Pachall and Trevone Boykin.
PREDICTION: TCU 17, Oklahoma 34
The Longhorns are one of the top teams in college football and will be the Sooners’ third straight tough game. In a classic Big 12 battle, the Sooners face a team returning 19 starters and returning their starting quarterback, David Ash. This could be the most talented Texas team since their national title appearance in 2009.
PREDICTION: Texas 28, Oklahoma 31
Kansas is known primarily as a basketball school and Charlie Weiss as the team’s head coach has furthered that claim to fame. Weiss is leading a lackluster squad once again into Big 12 play and returning just 11 starters will not be a good sign for a team that was 1-11 last season.
PREDICTION: Oklahoma 52, Kansas 10
The Red Raiders have a new coach and a new quarterback in 2013. Losing quarterback Seth Doege will be a vital blow to the offense and the coaching staff will need a bit of time to get acquainted with the style of play in the Big 12. This game could get pretty ugly.
PREDICTION: Texas Tech 13, Oklahoma 38
Baylor was one of the more potent offenses in the nation last season, but their defense seemed to be giving up touchdown after touchdown every game. The Bears will need to lock down defensively if they even want a shot at keeping the Sooners from scoring 50.
PREDICTION: Oklahoma 45, Baylor 27
Finishing the 2012 season with a disappointing 6-7 record, the Cyclones will likely be no contest for the Sooners in 2013. Leading a team into a season with no experienced quarterback under center is devastating -- and that’s exactly what Iowa State will be dealing with.
PREDICTION: Iowa State 14, Oklahoma 28
Losing starting quarterback Collin Klein will be tough because of the fact that he was a Heisman finalist and in order to fill his shoes, the Wildcats would need to steal a top quarterback from another team. That’s not going to happen, however, but the Wildcats will be an offensive team, returning seven starters, while only returning three on defense.
PREDICTION: Kansas State 30, Oklahoma 41
Oklahoma State could be the biggest test for the Sooners all season long and what better way to finish the 2013 season than against a huge rival? With the quarterback situation seemingly shaping up well for the Cowboys, the Sooners could possibly find themselves on the wrong side of a close game.
PREDICTION: Oklahoma 31, Oklahoma State 34
Oklahoma finishes the season 10-2 and ties for yet another Big 12 title.
