The Baylor Bears are coming off an 8-5 season in which they boasted a top-10 national defense while rolling out one of the worst defenses in the nation week after week. Head coach Art Briles has coached some top offenses in his five years at the school and coming off a week one win in which the Bears defeated Wofford 69-3, this could be yet another top offense.
On the other side of the field, the Buffalo Bulls are coming off a week one loss at Ohio State in which they gave the Buckeyes a serious run for their money. The Bulls have a lot to improve on in week two if they want to pull off an upset against the newly-ranked Bears.
As I stated earlier, Baylor’s offense is one of the best in the nation. Even in week one, they finished with more yards and points than most teams in college football. Junior quarterback Bryce Petty had thrown just 14 passes prior to the 2013 season, but following a 19-24, 312 yards and two-touchdown performance, he looks to be picking this offense up where the past quarterbacks left it off. Running back Lache Seastrunk is one of the best at his position in the nation and proved it with his 11 carries for 111 yards and two scored.
Buffalo’s offense failed to gain any sort of steam against the Buckeyes in week one. Quarterback Joe Licata had just 185 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions while the run game faltered. Only one running back had more than 10 yards rushing, and the Bulls averaged less than three yards per carry.
The defenses were a different story. Baylor allowed just 233 yards of offense to Wofford and although they didn’t face stiff competition, the Bears should be ecstatic with holding them to just three points. Buffalo was a different story. The Bulls allowed the Buckeyes to do basically whatever they wanted offensively, giving up 460 yards and 40 points.
The Buffalo Bulls will be traveling to Baylor to take on the Bears in week two at 3:30 p.m. EST on Saturday, Sept. 7. Check your local listings for the broadcast.
