The Georgia Bulldogs finished their first month of a grueling schedule with an instant classic against the LSU Tigers. The game went back and forth for most of the day with Georgia coming out on top at the end of the day in a 44-41 thriller. UGA got the job done without one of their offensive stars as Todd Gurley left the game with an ankle injury, but they were bailed out by sophomore Keith Marshall taking over in the backfield.
Gurley was having a strong day in the early going gaining 73 yards on just eight carries. His ankle injury forced him out of the game and Mark Richt had to regroup in a hurry as the rushing attack is such a pivotal part of the Bulldogs’ offensive gameplan. Thanks to Marshall, they didn’t miss a beat down the stretch.
The sophomore stepped in and rushed for a strong 96 yards on 20 carries providing balance for Georgia as they went back and forth with LSU down the stetch. Supported by Marshall’s team-high rushing effort, Georgia finished the game with 196 yards rushing as they racked up nearly 500 yards of total offense. He was also instrumental in their final drive to score the go-ahead touchdown with less than two minutes to go.
While Gurley watched the game from the sidelines in his street clothes and wearing a boot on his injured ankle, Marshall became the “next man up” and provided a critical spark to the Georgia offense. If Gurley has to miss any extended time because of his injury, Richt can rest assured that his offense will be all right thanks to Marshall and his readiness to step in when he was needed the most.
