Ole Miss (3-2, 1-2) is still, well, Ole Miss – you know, the team that consistently comes through with monumental letdowns just when you start believing in them. Yes, it’s still the team that always seems to be one or two years away from making big noise in the SEC. After rolling out to three-straight wins, Ole Miss has now lost two in a row, parting ways with its early-season momentum in the process.

“We have lost the momentum from our start, but that’s the game of football,” Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze said.

It’s clear that the Rebels are still building and aren’t quite where they want to be as a program. Freeze said maintaining momentum isn’t easy when “you play in this conference in the situation we’re in, trying to build a program.”

For a season that showed so much promise three weeks ago, Ole Miss is now staring down the barrel of what could be four-straight defeats. The Rebels now must take on No. 9 Texas A&M and No. 10 LSU to complete its mid-season “SEC West Murderers’ Row.”

If Ole Miss doesn’t find a way to turn things around in a hurry, this team could find itself on the outside looking in come bowl selection Sunday – a scenario that seemed highly unlikely if not unfathomable last month.

What to look for in Week 7: Closure. The Rebels had Johnny Manziel and the Aggies all but beat last season, up 10 in the fourth quarter. But Ole Miss let them off the hook, as Manziel orchestrated two late touchdowns to pull off the comeback despite six A&M turnovers. Stopping the Aggies’ offense doesn’t seem like a viable option, so the Rebels are going to have to score. Ole Miss ranks just 12th out of 14 SEC teams in the red zone, scoring touchdowns in 12-of-19 attempts. The Rebels can’t afford to leave even a few points out there this week if they are to have any shot at taking down A&M.
