Beginning the season as a clear favorite to be one of the unbeaten teams in the country at the end of the season, the Louisville Cardinals have lost a game in 2013 and, much to everyone’s surprise, they may not win the American Athletic Conference. They are still a BCS-worthy team, however.
If there’s any team that needs a win right now, it’s the Connecticut Huskies who are 0-7 on the season with no clear end in sight. Connecticut has been awful so far this season and that struggle can be attributed to no clear leadership as the head coach has already been fired and no single player stands out.
Louisville has one of the best quarterbacks in the nation, but the junior might be in his last collegiate season because he is widely considered a top NFL draft pick in 2014. Teddy Bridgewater has been impressive this season and he leads the 11th-ranked passing attack in the nation with 2,557 yards and 25 touchdowns through the air. Bridgewater has been spreading the ball around perfectly, but if there was a No. 1 receiver it would be Damian Copeland who has 33 catches for 486 yards and four touchdown catches. Dominique Brown leads all running backs with 484 yards and four touchdowns to go with it.
Connecticut is winless and desperately searching for any sign of life on the offensive side of things. Chandler Whitmer started the season as the No. 1 option at quarterback but has since been replaced by freshman quarterback Tim Boyle. The young quarterback has yet to pass for a touchdown this season, but you can tell this program is looking to develop a young quarterback for the future. Boyle has 506 yards and five interceptions in three starts this season. Geremy Davis doesn’t care who plays quarterback as he has caught 35 passes for 544 yards on the year. The run game ranks 117th in the country — yes, even worse than the pass game.
Defensively, the Huskies have one of the worst units in the nation. They rank 107th in points allowed with 35.1 per game and 64th in the country with 400 yards per game. Louisville, on the other hand, has one of the best defenses out there. The Cardinals rank second in the nation in both points and yards allowed per contest.
Louisville will travel to Connecticut to take on the Huskies at 8:30 p.m. EST on Friday, Nov. 8. The game will be broadcasted on ESPN 2.
PREDICTION: Louisville 41, Connecticut 10
