The state of Illinois is no stranger to great players named Jordan. Once again, Jordan Lynch was the top dog for the Northern Illinois Huskies on Tuesday night. With a 33-14 win, NIU capped off an undefeated regular season.
It was not an ideal night for the passing game, but Lynch did more then enough with his legs. Lynch’s record for most rushing yards by a quarterback lasted a little more then a month until he set the record again on Tuesday night with an incredible 321 yards.
Lynch led the Huskies to their first undefeated regular season in 50 years and are now one win away from a second-straight BCS bid. If the Huskies win the MAC Championship Game next week and the BCS standings stay status quo, the Huskies will be busting the party for back-to-back years.
In the latest standings, NIU leaped over the Fresno State Bulldogs and are still ahead of the AAC leader. With one more win, look for the Huskies to be either in the Orange Bowl for the second-straight year or the Fiesta Bowl.
Also, with the action last week, it shook up the Heisman Trophy race and Lynch could be one of the benefactors. A strong case can be made that Lynch deserves the Heisman this year with the numbers he is putting up. While he may not win it for conference affiliation or publicity, he should at least receive an invite to New York for the presentation.
Lynch is a senior and has two games left in a Huskies’ uniform. Time will tell if he is able to translate his skills to the next level, but for now, enjoy “His Groundness” as he is on the verge of another BCS trip.
