Archie Manning Unfortunately Steps Down From Playoff Committee

The College Football Playoff Committee consists of 13 people who have been given the task of selecting the best teams in the nation and assigning them to playoff games. Unfortunately, the committee will be down one person going forward as Archie Manning will be forced to quit due to non life-threatening health reasons.

The father of three incredibly successful sons, two of which have won the Super Bowl, is having complications from the knee replacement surgery he underwent earlier this year. Since the complications have not improved on its own, Manning will have to undergo surgery in early November to fix the issue. That means that he will be unfit to help the College Football Playoff Committee in their selection process during a key part of the season.

At this point, the powers that be must decide if they will replace Manning on the committee. I have to imagine the ideal situation would be him returning at some point in the future, but the uncertainty of that can create problems. More specifically, the committee of 13 people now only has 12, which is an issue for the current college football season.

The obvious decision would be to replace Manning with an alternate committee member, assuming they even exist. One would assume that they do considering the importance of the committee and the obvious fact that health issues can arise suddenly, especially given the average age of the committee members.

As unfortunate as it is to see Manning step down from his role on the committee, it is good to know that the health issue he is dealing with is nothing too serious.
