Big Ten Week 11 Score Predictions

It’s a big week in the Big Ten headlined by the Michigan State-Ohio State clash to decide the Big Ten East. The matchup will also reveal the conference’s best hope for a playoff contender. Elsewhere Michigan will face Northwestern in a fight for each school to hold onto their slim bowl hopes, while Iowa and Minnesota will battle to stay in contention atop the Big Ten West.

Indiana’s dire situation at quarterback has stymied the once potent Hoosier offense. Penn State has been formidable defensively, even against an elite Ohio State team. Nittany Lion QB Christian Hackenberg should be able to make some plays against a porous Hoosier defense. This game should look a lot like Indiana’s defeat to Michigan last week, a team Penn State is very similar to in quality.

Purdue looks to be more competitive this year under second-year head coach Darrell Hazell. But the Boilermakers have their hands full with a Wisconsin outfit similar to the Nebraska team that hammered them last week. Badger RB Melvin Gordon should run wild on a mediocre Purdue defense as a rolling Wisconsin team imposes their will on both sides of the football.

Minnesota’s forgiving schedule thus far has elevated an otherwise mediocre team. The Golden Gophers barely put away Purdue two weeks ago before falling to Illinois. Iowa has been more proven and competitive against solid competition and that experience should show on the road Saturday. Hawkeye QB Jake Rudock and the balanced Iowa offense should be able to control the football.

In a matchup of teams clinging to desperate bowl hopes, Northwestern is moving in the wrong direction with increasingly lopsided losses the past three weeks. Michigan has at least escaped with wins in two out of three. It’s difficult to trust Wolverine QB Devin Gardner, but Michigan’s defense is the best unit in this game and should make enough plays to deliver a road win.

In another down season of Big Ten football, Saturday night’s big game will showcase the conference's best. Both teams can move the football and defend, but it will the Spartan defense that makes a difference in East Lansing. J.T. Barrett hasn’t showed up in Ohio State’s two big games so far, and the Buckeye QB will be under the microscope in this one. Michigan State will win a pretty entertaining football game.
