The Louisville Cardinals are still smarting over their blown opportunity against Florida State last week. The Boston College Eagles are still celebrating their close win against Virginia Tech while on the road. Despite the difference in their recent games, these two ACC teams are pretty evenly matched. Both teams have 6-3 records. Both teams statically have two of the best defenses in the country. Both teams are going to bowl games. Both teams will have to play their best because one mistake could mean a loss.
Boston College has been prone to turnovers — they have eight in the past nine games. That cannot happen this Saturday. Louisville’s stout defense will be looking for a chance to fluster quarterback Tyler Murphy. The Cardinals have also been on fire when it comes to intercepting the football — they snagged three from Jameis Winston last week. The Eagles’ best bet might be to run the ball. They are averaging 274 rushing yards per game, which isn’t too shabby. However, all of that is moot if they are turning over the ball.
This week, Louisville is looking to redeem itself after a horrifying second half against Florida State last week. On the road, the Cardinals are 2-2 and they will not want to have a losing road record. Even though Louisville put up some of its best numbers last week with 488 total yards, it was horrible with third down conversions. Even though they are averaging close to 31 points per game, the Cards must stay consistent and convert most of their downs to keep up with the Eagles.
This game is going to be a battle of the offenses. With sturdy defenses providing the backbone for both teams, Louisville and Boston College’s passing and rushing game will have to be extraordinary and close to perfect. Chances are, the difference in points will be in the single digits. However, if Louisville’s inability to convert on third and fourth downs carries into this week, Boston College will take advantage and own the game.
Prediction: Boston College 35, Louisville 31
