Michigan’s Defense Will Lead Them to a Bowl Game
The Michigan defense has been spectacular as of late. They have held their last two opponents to only 19 total points, and they’ve forced five total turnovers in the process. It started last week against Indiana as they held them to only 191 total yards and just 24 through the air. They also held Heisman candidate Tevin Coleman in check most of the game. Yesterday against Northwestern, the dominance continued.
Michigan’s defense forced three turnovers and held the Northwestern rushing attack to -9 yards on the day. Despite an unimpressive offensive performance, Michigan was still able to get one step closer to becoming bowl-eligible. They now have five wins on the season and just need one victory in their last two games to make a bowl game. Playing at Ohio State in the final week of the season will be tough, but they get Maryland at the Big House in two weeks, and that will be their best opportunity to get win number six.
Michigan’s defense currently ranks seventh in the country in yards per game given up. They are also ninth in yards per game given up on the ground. They struggled at times early in the season but have really turned things around recently. Their play is what has allowed Michigan to win three of its last four games and be on the verge of resurrecting a season that looked to be doomed when they were sitting at 2-4.
The Michigan defense has been nothing short of spectacular over the last two weeks. They have turned Michigan’s season around and have given them a chance to end on a positive note. Brady Hoke is going to be fired regardless at the end of the season, but the team’s play lately should give the new regime something to build upon for next season.
