A huge home win against No. 10 Notre Dame in week 11 led to a letdown loss on the road to a lesser opponent in Oregon State in week 12 for the Arizona State Sun Devils. They are hoping to avoid spiraling out of control down the stretch by taking down another lesser opponent in the Washington State Cougars in week 13. However, the Cougars are trying to win out for the injured Connor Halliday.

Arizona State is led by a talented quarterback by the name of Taylor Kelly who has come back from an injury to shine in the Sun Devils’ offense — although the team was solid behind the strong arm of backup Mike Bercovici. Kelly has reclaimed the team lead in passing yards, throwing for 1,498 yards, 14 touchdowns and five interceptions while running for another 263 yards and three scores. Jaelen Strong leads the receiving game as he caught balls from both quarterbacks with ease, racking up 71 catches for 982 yards and nine touchdowns on the year. Running back D.J. Foster has been quite dynamic, catching 47 passes out of the backfield for 527 yards and three scores while also leading the team in rushing with 872 yards and six touchdowns.

It’s hard to watch anyone go down with a serious injury, let alone a three-year starter like Halliday who was aiming for his second consecutive 4,000-yard season heading into the draft. However, after a gnarly ankle break he has been replaced by a guy who might end up putting up Halliday-like numbers in his career. Freshman Luke Falk has filled in for Halliday, passing for 903 yards, eight touchdowns and just one interception in a little over two games this year — oh yeah, and he’s completing 70 percent of his passes. Senior wide out Vince Mayle has been the team’s No. 1 receiver this season, catching 86 passes for 1,152 yards and nine touchdowns. Isaiah Myers is second on the team with 68 catches for 795 yards and a team-high 11 scores. Washington State has basically no leverage in the run game, ranking 127th in the nation.

Defensively, the Cougars have basically been a non-factor this season. Washington State ranks just 108th in total yards allowed and an even worse 118th in points allowed per game. Arizona State has been better, but not necessarily good, this season, ranking 59th in points allowed and 76th in total yards allowed per contest.

Washington State will travel to Arizona State to take on the Sun Devils at 1 p.m. EST on Saturday, Nov. 22. The game will be broadcasted on the Pac-12 Network.

PREDICTION: Washington State 20, Arizona State 38
